Currently, the Chennai Egmore-Chennai Beach railway route accommodates two suburban lines and one express/freight line. Due to the existing track limitations, the potential for additional train services has been curtailed. In response, a new 4th track is slated for construction between Chennai Beach and Egmore, with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 300 crores.
To facilitate this endeavor, the current budget has allocated Rs. 96.70 crore. The Railway Board has issued directives to expedite the project`s completion. Challenges related to land acquisition were encountered initially; however, successful negotiations have paved the way for resolution. Consequently, progress on the Chennai Beach-Egmore 4th line is set to commence.
Officials from the Chennai Railway Division have shared insights into the development. The stretch between Beach and Egmore, spanning 4.3 km, has had its land acquisition challenges effectively resolved. As a result, the initiation of construction work on the 4th track is scheduled for August 28. Detailed notifications outlining changes in train services during the construction period will be made available soon.
This strategic initiative aims to alleviate the existing capacity constraints, enhancing railway connectivity and accessibility along the Chennai Beach-Egmore route.
