In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion and prevent gridlocks at the intersection of Annasalai and GP Road, the City Police have introduced a series of traffic diversions set to take effect starting this Sunday. The current traffic scenario on GP Road, with numerous car accessories and spare parts shops lining both sides of the road, has led to erratic parking of four-wheelers, causing inconvenience to the public. To address these traffic concerns on GP Road, the traffic police have implemented changes to the existing traffic flow.
As part of these modifications, Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) buses, heavy vehicles, and other commercial vehicles heading from West Cott Road towards GP Road will be redirected at the Tower Clock junction, guiding them towards Whites Road and Smith Road to access Anna Salai. These vehicles will no longer be permitted to proceed straight towards Woods Road and GP Road, with exceptions made for two-wheelers and cars.
For two-wheelers and cars traveling from GP Road towards Annasalai, the right turn at the Dams Road junction will be closed off. Instead, they will be rerouted to make a left turn towards Anna Salai Spencer junction, where they will be allowed to perform a `U` turn.
However, vehicles originating from Anna Statue and traveling via GP Road towards Tower Clock junction on the outgoing side will continue to be allowed without any changes.
It`s worth noting that vehicles coming from Anna Statue will no longer have the option to execute a `U` turn at the GP Road and Anna Salai junction. Instead, they will be directed towards Spencer junction to perform a `U` turn.
Vehicles heading from Spencer Junction to GP Road will also experience diversions, being guided towards Dams Road and Blacker Road to reach their intended destinations. These traffic modifications aim to streamline traffic flow and enhance the overall commuting experience in the area.
