The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in 9 districts of Tamil Nadu today. The affected districts include Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, and Pudukottai.

According to P. Senthamaraikannan, the Director of the Chennai Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in various parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This weather pattern is attributed to a low atmospheric circulation over Tamil Nadu.

The hilly regions of Coimbatore district, as well as Theni, Dindigul, Thenkasi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, and Thanjavur districts, are likely to experience heavy rain at isolated locations.

Additionally, districts including Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, and a few areas in Puducherry are expected to receive heavy rain on August 31st and September 1st.

Chennai is anticipated to have partly cloudy skies today, with some areas possibly experiencing light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Over the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM yesterday, the highest recorded rainfall in Tamil Nadu was 7 cm in Kodambakkam, Chennai, followed by 6 cm in Vanagaram, Annanagar, and Ambathur in Tiruvallur district. Rainfall of 5 cm was reported in Nungampakkam, Tiruvallur district.

In terms of cyclonic winds, coastal areas of South Tamil Nadu, the Gulf of Mannar, and the adjacent Kumari Sea are expected to experience maximum winds of up to 65 km/h today. Tomorrow, on August 31st, South West Bengal and the South East Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lankan coastal areas may see gusts of up to 55 km/h, with the possibility of cyclonic winds. Fishermen are advised to avoid these areas on both days due to the weather conditions.
