It has been announced that two important suburban electric train services in Chennai, namely the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) or the `Flying Train service,` and the Chennai Metro train services, are set to be linked in the near future.
The Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), also known as the Flying Train service, operates from the Chennai Beach Station up to the Velachery Station.
The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Authority has conducted a thorough analysis of these MRTS services and subsequently initiated a project to connect the MRTS with the Chennai Metro Train Services.
The first phase of the survey and study has been completed, and a detailed Draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been submitted to the Railways Department for consideration.
Once approval is granted by the Railways Department, the Mass Rapid Transit System services will be upgraded to provide the same facilities as those offered by the Chennai Metro Train Services.
The officials of the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Authority will initiate the tendering process for this project to upgrade the MRTS services.
