The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains for 2 days - today, Friday, 1st September, and tomorrow, Saturday, 2nd September - in Tamil Nadu, including the districts of Chengalpattu and Villupuram.
In a notification released in this regard by the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, Pa. Senthamaraikkannan, it is mentioned:
"Due to the cyclonic format prevailing in the lower layers of the atmosphere over the region of Tamil Nadu, there are prospects for mild to medium rain with lightning and thunder in a few places in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today (Friday, 1st September) and tomorrow (Saturday, 2nd September).
There are prospects for mild to medium rain in a few places from 3rd September until 6th September.
Today (Friday, 1st September), there are prospects for heavy rains in the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thirupathur, Thiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakkurichi, Perambalur, Nilgiri, and Erode.
Tomorrow (Saturday, 2nd September), there are prospects for heavy rains in 1 or 2 places in the districts of Kallakkurichi, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Perambalur, Ariyalur, and Puducherry.
Chennai Metro City and its suburbs will remain somewhat cloudy in the next 48 hours. There are prospects for mild to medium rain with lightning and thunder in a few places in the city in the evening and night.
The maximum temperature will be 98 degrees Fahrenheit, and the minimum temperature will be 79 degrees Fahrenheit.
As of 8.30 AM yesterday (31st August, Thursday), the maximum rainfall recorded in centimeters in certain places: Sivagangai District Thirubvanam - 14, Villupuram District Koliyanur – 12, Nemur, Valavanur – 11 each, Krishnagiri District Jambukuttappatti – 10, Villupram District Kandhanur, Krishnagiri District Oothankarai – 9 each, Coimbatore District Chinnakkallaru and Villupuram - 7 each.
Warning to fishermen:
High-speed cyclonic winds at 45-55 kmph and intermittently at 65 kmph are likely to blow in the Southern Tamil Nadu coastal areas, Bay of Mannar, and the adjacent Kanyakumari Ocean on the 3rd and the 4th of September. As such, fishermen in these regions are warned not to venture into the sea during this period."
