New order from Madras High Court - Mobile phones to be banned in all the temples now in TN!!

In the future, using mobile phones in the temples across TN would not be possible!!

On Friday, 1st September 2023, a special division bench of the High Court of Madras directed the TN state to implement mobile phone ban in all the temples.

It must be noted that Palani based Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple submitted a status report before the division bench comprising Justice R. Mahadevan and Justice PD. Adhikesavulu. According to the Justices, bringing mobile phones and other electronic gadgets inside the temple was prohibited.

It must be recalled that the standing counsel for Palani temple Mr. R. Bharanidharan submitted an action taken report to ban mobile phones inside the temple. The report cited that taking mobile phones and electronic gadgets (with cameras) were prohibited from the temple foothills. As a result, 3 counters were created to collect all the mobile phones.

It is now mentioned that the devotees would be charged Rs 5 a nominal fee and there would be temple staff at each counter from 1st of October onwards. The bench directed the HR & CE dept to implement a ban on the mobile phones across all the temples in Tamil Nadu.
