Chennai is gearing up for a potential game-changer in its public transport infrastructure with plans to introduce a Light Metro system in high-traffic areas like Anna Nagar and Thiagarayar Nagar. In a significant step towards making this vision a reality, more than 10 surveys have been initiated, encompassing aspects such as public transport usage and parking facilities.

Notably, this ambitious project is designed to be an above-ground, non-tunnel system. The envisaged Light Metro will operate at a maximum speed of 30 km per hour, with tracks laid along the sides of roads or in the center, offering commuters a convenient and efficient means of transportation.

As the project gains traction, it is set to engage directly with the community. An estimated 2.50 lakh people will be actively involved in the decision-making process through consultations with the integrated transport group project. This inclusive approach seeks to ensure that the proposed Light Metro system aligns with the needs and preferences of the residents and commuters of Chennai.
