If you have thought that the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam in south Chennai would be the best in the facilities, then here comes a surprising piece of information!!
In the future, a new state-of-the- art bus terminus would be constructed near Chennai as CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has invited tenders. It is said that this facility would be completed in a year. This has been appreciated by many now.
Exact location of the new bus terminus:
Pont is that the new bus terminus would be coming up at Chengalpet near Chennai. It is brought out that the Chengalpet town would get decongested by this new bus terminus here. It is well known that Chengalpet town has narrow roads and the traffic is too chaotic. This is mainly because many buses come inside the town.
Information is that this new bus terminus would come up at Venpakkam on 14 acres of land. An amount of Rs 40 crores would be spent for this new bus terminus work.
Salient features of the new bus terminus:
The upcoming new state-of-the-art bus terminus would have 46 bus bays in the terminal and 61bays in the depot. It would have a parking space for 67 4 wheelers and782 two wheelers etc. The bus terminus would have 30 shops, restaurants, lobby, ticket counters, tourism info centres plus cloak rooms, feeding rooms, crew restrooms & passenger dormitory etc.
According to the CMDA minister Mr. Sekar Babu, the construction work would be completed quickly as it was an important facility for the public. He assured that the new bus terminus would have the state- of- the -art facilities.
Rapid industrialisation & real estate boom:
In the last few years, Chengalpet district has been witnessing rapid industrialisation and real estate boom etc. There is heavy congestion here and this has been creating many issues for the public.
It is learnt that after Tambaram many have shifted to Chengalpet as it was more affordable plus due to the presence of many job opportunities etc. As the present bus terminus is present inside the Chengalpet town, there is now more congestion here.
According to a resident it was quite clear that moving across the town was very difficult on the normal days and during the weekends and festivals etc the situation worsens. He was of the view that the shifting of the bus terminus would ease the congestion to a certain extent.
According to the Chengalpet district collector Mr. Rahul Nath, the roads in the town are n narrow and widening of the roads would not be possible due to acquisition costs etc. He concluded that the upcoming new bus terminus here would provide a superb solution.
