Zero marks or negative marks in NEET, not a problem for the medicos to pursue their post graduate studies!!
On Wednesday, 20th September 2023, the medical counselling committee under the Union health ministry said that all candidates who have appeared for NEET PG 2023 would be eligible to apply for post graduate or PG medical or dental seats across India. It must be noted that the previous cut-offs for general category was 291 and for reserved category it was 257.
It is now mentioned that the rationale behind such a decision was because of many PG seats going vacant. Point is that more than 8000 PG seats both clinical and non-clinical in many govt as well as in the non-govt medical colleges have been vacant across India. After the PG counselling in 2022 as many as 3744 seats remained vacant and this has made many to worry.
A member belonging to the National Medical Council spoke about how it was unanimously decided to bring down the eligibility criteria for PG admissions. It must be noted that in 2022 the eligibility criteria for super specialty courses were reduced to zero percentile.
