There is now no smooth multi-modal connection between the airport and Tirusluam railway station in Chennai. Point to be noted is that accessing Tirusulam station from the airport is still an issue for many now.
The subway across GST that connects airport campus and railway stations is not easily accessible now for many airport staff and those passengers who use suburban railway stations etc. The reason for this is due to a pathway that cuts across roads used by cars coming into terminals. To reduce the speed of the traffic, a speed breaker has been built near the airport metro station.
Many users of the subway are unhappy regarding the design of the subway as the subway gets flooded during the rains. Absence of ramps plus non working lift has been adding to the woes. From the GST road side, the entry of the lifts has been barricaded. The absence of a ticket counter in the location is making the passengers pull strolley bags.
It was explained by a road safety expert that the subway was flooded during the recent rains. He added that the design of the subway was carried out without taking into consideration the air passengers.
