The State Government of Tamil Nadu has released a Government Order to establish `Vehicle Fitness Testing` Equipment in collaboration with private agencies for the issuance of Vehicle Fitness Certificates.
In a notification issued by the Secretary of Home Affairs for the State Government of Tamil Nadu, P. Amudha, it is stated:
"The Central Government has mandated that starting from October 1, 2024, all Vehicle Fitness certificates MUST be issued EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH the use of Automatic Vehicle Fitness Testing Equipment. Concurrently, the State Minister of Transport for the Tamil Nadu State Government announced in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in March that the automatic vehicle fitness testing equipment will be established in partnership with the private sector.
Following this announcement, the Transport Department Commissioner has dispatched letters outlining the project`s recommendations for setting up the Automatic Vehicle Fitness Testing Equipment.
According to these recommendations, Automatic Vehicle Fitness Testing Equipment will be jointly established with Private Agencies at 18 locations across the State of Tamil Nadu, including Redhills, Tambaram, Sriperumpudhur, Vellore, Tindivanam, Dindigul, and Madurai South.
Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited has subsequently taken on the responsibilities for issuing tenders related to the construction project, and the State Government of Tamil Nadu has granted approval for the installation of Automatic Vehicle Fitness Testing Equipment at 18 locations throughout the State of Tamil Nadu."
