The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu today.
According to Mr. P. Senthamaraikkannan, Director of the Chennai Zonal Meteorological Center, the atmospheric circulation prevailing in the Kumari Sea and its surrounding areas is expected to bring light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning to some areas in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today (October 11).
In addition, heavy rainfall has already been reported in several locations in the hilly regions of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Trichy, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Sivagangai, and Virudhunagar districts.
The weather in Chennai and its suburbs is expected to be partly cloudy, with some parts of the city likely to experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 93.2 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit, with minimum temperatures between 78.8 and 80.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
In the 24 hours leading up to 8.30 am on October 10, the highest recorded rainfall was 11 cm at Tirupur Collectorate, with 9 cm each at Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district and Periyanayakanpalayam in Coimbatore, as well as 8 cm at Salem. These figures were reported in the press release issued by the Meteorological Department.
