With the Indian government favouring digital transactions these days, paying with cash has taken the back seat!!
In this scenario, in more than 9000 fair price ration shops located in Chennai and in the suburban places, the facility to pay for the essential items through UPI transactions have been introduced. This has caught the attention of many now.
It is well known to us that in TN more than 34000 fair price ration shops have been functioning. In these ration shops, the essential items are issued to the common public through point-of-sale machines on the basis of aadhaar linked fingerprints.
It is learnt that many trials have been conducted to facilitate the payment for the essential items through UPI transactions instead of cash. Information is that in about 9200 fair price ration shops in TN the payment for essential items using UPI has been introduced. As many as 1700 fair price ration shops belonging to Chennai and its suburban areas would also have this latest facility.
In the last June itself, this new payment method using UPI was supposed to be launched but was postponed due to various reasons. Now, those going to but the essential items from the fair price ration shops could scan the QR code at the ration shops to pay the amount.
It is now said that this mode of payment through UPI transactions would be expanded to other shops too depending on the demand. Now, at the fair price ration shops, banners with awareness slogans are placed.
