The news that has come out now is that within another 2 weeks the TN government is likely to give administrative sanction for the second airport that would be coming up at Parandur near Chennai.
The sources have explained that important processes like land acquisition and finalising the airport boundary etc would begin soon. It is known that Parandur was chosen as the place for the construction of the second airport of Chennai. The TN govt has allocated 4781 acres of land for the project by the TN government. The Parandur site is located about 60kms from the Meenambakkam airport in Chennai.
As per a source, after the administrative sanction the state govt could start the most important work of land acquisition. It added that if everything goes as per the plans then the second airport would become a reality in another 7 years.
Techno-economic report:
About 4 months back, work on the techno-economic report began and it is now going on well. In a few months, the consultant Louis Berger might complete the work. The report would highlight various things like traffic survey, obstacle limitation surface study, financial model, social impact study etc. To help in the construction of the project, the report would be all encompassing and in-depth. Then, a detailed master plan would be prepared by the consultant.
It is known that farmers and residents of the villages in and around Parandur have been against the construction of the second airport here due to the fear of floods and other environment based issues etc.
