In February 2024, the GCC would be establishing compressed biogas plants in various zones belonging to Chennai. As per some officials, 2 plants are already in operation in Madhavaram and in Chetpet in Chennai. For the generation of biogas, more than 30% of the municipal solid waste would be used.
Market tie-ups through PPE mode:
Recently, the GCC took part in a meeting with the oil marketing companies for the promotion of market tie-ups through public private partnership mode or PPP mode It is no9w said that popular oil companies like HPCL and GAIL are signing MOU with private concessionaires. It is worthy to mention that in Madhavaram 200 tonnes of segregated waste has been utilised every day to generate 3 tonnes of compressed biogas.
Two biogas generating plants would soon start operating in Sholinganallur and the total capacity would be 200 tonnes. From February 2024, the first phase of plants would be operational at Sholinganallur.
