In Arundathiyar Nagar, BNC mill quarters and north town in Chennai, around 2000 families reside. As there is no PDS in their locality, these residents would have to travel more than 2km to purchase ration items. Truth is that they all go to Jamalia to buy their rations.
About 7 years back, there was a plan to construct a ration shop here and land was also identified in the year 2016. Till now, there has been no progress in this and this has made the residents unhappy.
It was brought out by a resident belonging to Arundathiyar Nagar that most of the residents belong to poor economic backgrounds. He added that the residents were dependent on the rations.
In the recent Assembly session, The Thiru Vi-Ka Nagar MLA Mr. Thayagam Ravi spoke about how just 750 ration cards only were present for about 2000 families. He hinted about the huge need for a ration shop. All the problems now would get solved if a shop comes up in the locality and this was mentioned by a resident belonging to Arundathiyar Nagar.
The good news is that the quotation to build a new shop is being readied and this was as per Thiru Vi-Ka Nagar zone chairman Saritha.
