At the start of Navarathri festival, the bommai or doll sales would have been a little dull but now in the end sales are superb!!
The last day of Navratri has come now and now the dolls are being sold very fast to the buyers. It must be noted that due to the surge in the raw materials the prices of dolls were high. This has prevented many from buying the dolls. This led to poor sales of the dolls in the beginning of the Navarathri festival.
No new customers are present now and it was just a repeat of customers who purchased dolls last year.
As per the doll shop owner from Nesapakkam in Chennai, the customers expected the doll prices to be low every year. This has led to poor sales and the shop owners were disappointed. He spoke about how by selling the dolls at low rates would not yield any profit due shop rent, electricity bills etc.
It is worth mentioning that the prices of dolls have increased by 20% to 25%now due to the increase in the prices of raw materials like clay, paint and decorative items etc. The shocking fact is that a medium sized doll that was sold for Rs 500 in 2022 cost Rs 750 now.
