To reduce traffic congestion, flyovers are constructed is well known. In the south Usman Road in T. Nagar in Chennai, a flyover is being constructed. Now, huge efforts are being taken by Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC to complete the flyover construction before the deadline.
Initially, September 2024 was the completion date that was set for the flyover but now the construction works would get over by the middle of 2024. This was mentioned by a release from GCC.
It is noteworthy that the flyover would link the existing south Usman Road flyover ramp section to CIT Nagar fourth main road via CIT Nagar first main road. The construction of the flyover would involve reconstruction of 177 piles and 53 piers etc.
Information gathered is that the project would include the provision of both up and down ramps from the current Usman Road flyover to Burkit Road Junction. The release from GCC also brought out the erection of an 80m retaining wall with a crash barrier along 107m of the project.
From the existing Usman Road to Burkit Road junction, provision for up and down ramps has been made. It is now said that after the completion, the flyover would span 1200m with a width of 8.4m of 2 lanes. There would be a ramp of 140m in the CIT Nagar Main Road in addition to 120m up and 100m down ramps respectively at Usman Road.
