South State Omni Bus Association has announced that from 6pm today the omni buses would not operate in TN. The announcement has come at a time when the pooja holidays are coming to an end now. This has taken many by surprise now.
It is now said that the announcement would affect many passengers who would be returning back to Chennai. Information collected is that as many as 119 omni buses have been impounded or seized by the transport dept officials in TN. A demand has been made to release these 119 omni buses.
It must be recalled that the omni buses were overcharging the passengers and 119 omni buses were seized across TN for several violations. In addition, as many as 2092 buses were fined Rs 37 lakhs.
Point is that there is no fare fixing for omni buses in the state and the unions themselves have fixed the fares so that the govt as well as the passengers were not affected.
It was explained by All Omni Bus Owners Associations that they have been operating the omnibuses at same fares till date after getting approval from the transport minister and commissioner at the meeting that took place in September last year.
