There are many locations in Chennai where the flood mitigation works are not yet completed. It is now said that GCC would monitor 30 locations in the city for completion of flood mitigation works.
The superb piece of information is that 3331 km of SWD have been readied in Chennai ahead of the onset of NE monsoon. This was as per the GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. He inspected the flood mitigation works on Tuesday.
He spoke about how over 3000m of drains were not completed in various parts of Chennai. He added that at 9 locations in core areas in Chennai including Rajaji Salai in Chennai drains were not completed. The flood mitigation works were incomplete because shifting of electric poles in 30 locations was not completed as multiple agencies like Railways etc were involved.
The GCC Commissioner later explained about the high capacity pumps that were readied for the monsoon season in the city. Point is that there were many issues in the important added areas like Perungudi, Alandur, Madipakkam, Valasaravakkam, Mugalivakkam, Manappakkam, etc. It must be noted that black topping of 26 roads in Manapakkam was completed. He concluded that work on relaying 24 roads in Madipakkam was going on.
