The Centenary Celebrations of Indian Cinema are to take place between 21st to 24th September, 2013 under the auspices of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in the Chennai.
Honourable Chief Minister Dr J Jayalalithaa will inaugurate the Tamil film events on the 21st September evening at 5.30 pm. The Chief Guest for the centenary event will be His Excellency, the President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
Centenary Celebrations of Indian Cinema Chairman C Kalyan in a statement said, “We are extremely happy to inform that the Centenary Celebrations of Indian Cinema is to take place between 21st to 24th September, 2013 under the auspices of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in the city. Never in the history of Indian cinema such a big film function has ever been attempted and this is feasible only due to the fullest cooperation of our Honourable Chief Minister Dr J Jayalalithaa. She has been taking a very keen interest in all the events especially Tamil events of 21st September as well as the grand finale on 24th September. This is a very unique function as film industries of all the four Southern States hailing from Chennai are congregating at their birthplace, Chennai to celebrate the Centenary Celebrations of Indian Cinema. We are extremely happy that our Honourable Chief Minister Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Dr J Jayalalithaa will inaugurate the Tamil film events on the 21st September evening at 5.30 pm, followed by Kannada Chapter on 22nd morning, Telugu Chapter on 22nd evening, and Malayalam Chapter will be held on 23rd morning. The grand finale of the entire film industry will be held on 24th September. The Chief Guest for the centenary event will be His Excellency, the President of India Pranab Mukherjee. Apart from Chief Ministers of the respective states, several ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will take part in the respective regional chapters. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has kindly consented to grace the function with his august presence on the grand finale to be held on 24th September. Other top actors from Hindi industry will also be participating in the event. To spread word about the grand event, public parks in Chennai are planned to be decked up with sound and lights; cinema and other cultural events are also planned to be held in public parks. Flash mob dances are being performed at the Besant Nagar beach and several malls in Chennai. Some old Tamil classics of southern languages of popular artists are also planned to be screened at Satyam and Abirami between 19th and 26th September for free. Jaya Television will be the exclusive official channel partner for Tamil events.”
