Chennai, India - In a recent announcement, the Chennai District Election Officer and Corporation Commissioner, J. Radhakrishnan, unveiled the latest draft of the voter rolls for the capital city. This release revealed interesting details about the voter landscape in Chennai and hinted at forthcoming revisions in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for five months from now.

The Harbour constituency in Chennai has maintained its position as the smallest constituency in the city. In contrast, Velachery continues to hold the title of the largest constituency, boasting a voter base of over 3 lakh citizens. This disparity in constituency sizes underscores the unique political dynamics within Chennai.

According to the draft voter rolls, a total of 3,868,178 registered voters currently reside in the capital city. These voters are categorized as 1,909,911 male voters, 1,965,149 female voters, and 1,118 individuals who identify as the third gender. It`s important to note that the latest voter roll release has undergone careful scrutiny, resulting in the removal of 24,536 male voters and 24,415 female voters due to verification processes.

The voter roll, which includes the names of Chennai Corporation Wards residents, is now open for public scrutiny. This step is crucial to enable voters to verify the accuracy of their information in the voter list. Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan strongly urges voters to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their details are correctly listed.

As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the election officials are expected to undertake revisions to the voter roll in January. Citizens who will attain voting age (18 years) are encouraged to ensure their names are included in the voter roll during this process. City corporation sources emphasized the importance of timely registration to exercise one`s democratic rights.

Additionally, district election officials have shared copies of the voter rolls with representatives of recognized state and national political parties. This transparent and participatory approach aims to ensure a fair and informed electoral process for all Chennai residents as they prepare for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
