Tamil Nadu, India - With the onset of the northeast monsoon and increased rainfall across various regions of Tamil Nadu, the state has witnessed a surge in mosquito-borne diseases, primarily dengue fever. This alarming rise in dengue cases has prompted the state health department to take aggressive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

In the past month alone, a staggering 1,198 cases of dengue have been reported in Tamil Nadu. The total number of dengue cases for the year has exceeded 5,000, with six unfortunate fatalities reported. As the northeast monsoon persists, the Aedes aegypti mosquito population is expected to thrive for the next couple of months, increasing the risk of dengue transmission.

In response to this public health crisis, Tamil Nadu`s Public Health Department, under the guidance of Director Selvavinayagam, is intensifying its efforts to combat dengue. Currently, 553 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the state. Preventive measures have been ramped up significantly to address this health emergency.

To tackle the escalating mosquito-borne threat, a robust force of 26,500 individuals has been mobilized to engage in mosquito eradication efforts throughout all districts of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, health officers have been appointed at the panchayat level, in urban ward areas, and even on a street-by-street basis within municipal corporations. This strategic deployment of health officers aims to enhance medical surveillance and monitoring, ensuring that dengue cases are promptly identified and addressed.

These proactive steps by the Tamil Nadu Public Health Department signify the government`s commitment to safeguarding public health during the rainy season. With the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals, officials, and the public, the state is determined to curb the spread of dengue and protect the well-being of its citizens.
