If you hear the sounds of cars racing and kicking up dust on the Chennai roads in the night, then don`t be surprised!!
This is a superb piece of news for the Chennai sports lovers. In about 5 weeks from now, the racing sport would be making its presence felt once again in Chennai. It must be recalled that 3 decades back, Madras Racing Circuit in Irungattukottai located on the outskirts of Chennai took Chennai to national as well as international racing map.
On 8th and 9th December 2023, Formula 4 category event was scheduled and it would take place in the name of Chennai Formula Racing now. What is really amazing about this racing is it would not take place on the exclusive track but on the roads near around the Island Ground at night.
To bridge the gap between kart racing and the F3 category, Formula 4 or F4 (an open wheel car racing) was introduced for the junior drivers is well known to us. It is learnt that the cars are powered by 1600 cc engines that could churn out 160bhp power. The cars would race at super speeds of 250kmph.
Place where the racing event will take place:
Information is that the racing event would happen at the Chennai formula Racing Circuit. It is a 3.7km stretch that has been developed on the public roads around the famous Island Grounds.
Road route taken for racing:
As per the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the racing circuit would start from the Island Grounds and it would cover Flag Staff Road, Pallavan Road Junction, Sivananda Road, Napier Bridge and would end at the Island Grounds.
The officials have confirmed that this upcoming racing would be the first ever race that would be conducted on the roads during night.
