Herbal medicines on Ripon Building canteen menu

The Chennai Corporation in order to combat the monsoon related disease had taken some innovative and useful steps. It has introduced herbal medicines in the menu along with the South Indian food items at the canteen in the Ripon Buildings.

For instance, nilavembu kashayam, which is available in the canteen, is a good medicine for combating dengue fever. Another item is avaram, which will prevent diabetes without any side effects. the canteen will also offer weight reduction medicine kollu rasam or horsegram rasam while vepampoo rasam will cure stomach-related illness. The thoothuvalai soup will help one breathe easily. It will protect us from cold during the rainy season.The other rice varieties like varagu, saamai, thinai and kuthiraivali which are available in the canteen will have less carbohydrate than usual rice items. 

The canteen is also  selling herbal items like avarampoo (cassia auriculata) idli, avarampoo dosa, tail millet idli, mudakathan keerai (balloon vine) dosa, thoothuvalai (purple-fruited pea eggplant) dosa, kezhvaragu dosa and manathakkali dosa. The canteen also serves herbal tea, herbal soups, juices and ginger buttermilk.
