For those living in ECR in Chennai, here comes a superb piece of news!!
On Monday, 6th November 2023, long pending schemes such as providing drinking water supply and underground sewage to the various places belonging to East Coast Road or ECR began.
Yesterday, for the schemes to be carried out in the localities like Palavakkam, Neelankarai and Kottivakkam etc, a foundation stone was laid by the minister for municipal administration Mr. K.N. Nehru. Information gathered is that the Rs 418.2 cr sewage project would be providing as many as 12776 sewage connections to the above said 3 localities under the Sholinganallur zone.
Sewer infrastructure:
The sewer infrastructure would have as many as 17 sewage pumping stations plus 164km long pipelines and 1633 machine holes in these localities. The release mentioned that the sewer infrastructure would be beneficial to 1.03 lakh residents.
It is now said that the residents of Neelankarai would get the piped water supply as Rs 77.03 cr scheme began yesterday. For more than a decade now, safe drinking water and underground drainage has been the demand for the residents of Neelankarai.
Through a 22 litre capacity overhead tank and 5lakh litre capacity storage pump, water would be supplied. As a part of infrastructure, pipelines running for a distance of 52km would be laid. The residents want the works to be completed fast and then roads to be re-laid soon.
The project would be completed within the time and this was assured by the minister Mr. K.N. Nehru. He added that to help 7lakh consumers several sewage schemes of Rs 799.32 cr were carried out. The minister then revealed that about 95% of the construction work was completed at the upcoming Nemmeli desalination plant with a capacity to treat 150 MLD per day. He concluded that the chief minister of TN would commission the plant soon.
