Yesterday, Chennai Mayor Priya chaired a meeting and she urged the Chennai residents to dispose of firecracker waste separately. She mentioned that the sanitary workers would then collect the fire cracker wastes and take them to the processing plant on the same day of Deepavali. It must be noted that firecrackers waste would be accumulated in Chennai from 11th to 13th of November.
She spoke about how awareness must be created among the residents through audio broadcasting in battery operated vehicles regarding proper and safe handling of firecracker waste and separating the garbage waste. She concluded that the separated waste must be given to the cleaners who come to collect the garbage from residential places in the city. To collect the firecracker waste from the roads, 2 heavy vehicles have been allotted to each of the 15 GCC zones.
Others who took part in the meeting yesterday were GCC Deputy Mayor Mr. Mahesh Kumar, gc Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan etc.
