State Government Responds to MSMEs Plea with Electricity Charge Reductions

In response to appeals from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the state government has taken proactive measures to alleviate financial burdens. The government has revised peak hour electricity charges, reducing them from 25% to 15%, and slashed solar rooftop network charges by 50% for industries falling under the LT IIIB category.

According to a government order issued on Friday, directives were issued to the energy department to work with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission in formulating a policy directive. This directive aims to provide subsidies to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, addressing concerns raised by the MSMEs.

To offset the impact of reduced charges and ensure financial support for the power utility, the state government has committed to a subsidy of Rs 196.10 crore. This subsidy will cover both the non-collection of peak hour charges and the reduction in solar rooftop network charges until the implementation of smart meters.

This initiative is expected to benefit a substantial number of small industries, with an estimated 3.37 enterprises across the state reaping the advantages of these revised policies.
