Gone are the days when only medical and engineering courses were considered as the top careers. The students now have got a vast number of career opportunities. One such would be the career as a drone pilot. There is now a huge increase in drone usage in the state of TN. In this scenario, the demand for drone pilots is also increasing.
Various fields where drones are being utilized:
It is worth mentioning here that TUAVC or TN Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Corporation in partnership with MIT, Anna University has been established to cater to the drone based requirements of various state govt departments. Not many of us would be aware of the fact that drone based solutions are being issued in law enforcement, mining, revenue & municipal administration, urban development, water management, archaeology, health, forestry, disaster management, GIS and environment studies etc.
The Chennai Corporation has supplied more than 200 drones to various government departments and private firms etc. This was revealed by a senior officer from HED. There is a huge need for exclusive drone pilots as each organisation having drones cannot allot its employees as drone pilots.
Information collected is that due increasing demand as drone pilots TUAVC has joined hands with Centre for Aerospace Research in Anna University and training was provided to the students and youths to become drone pilots. It was mentioned by an official that there were 2 types of training like small category and small and medium category.
DGCA certificate license:
It is now said that at the end of each course DGCA or Directorate general of Civil Aviation certificate would be provided to those candidates who are successful. In India, until July 2023, there were about 5100 certified drone pilots available. Truth is that this was a steep rise when compared to the previous year.
Drones use In Tamil Nadu:
The important piece of information is that TUAVC has proposed TN Wetlands dept for mapping select 50 wetlands in TN. The TN Coastal Security group, Special Task Force, TN Police and TN Minerals dept have been utilising the drones.
