The top layer of both carriageway as well as service roads on either side of the 32km long bypass from Perungalathur to Puzhal would be re-laid by NHAI or National Highway Authority of India. By this, the motorists who use this route would be able to ride smoothly.
By the month of May 2024, the work would have to be completed and relaying work would be taken up accordingly. This was as per some sources belonging to NHAI. Information is that tenders have been called for and the process was underway at the headquarters. It was explained by the source that cold milling would be carried out to not increase the height of the road. It is said that atleast 30% of the removed material would be reused. An amount of Rs 100 cr would be the total value of the works. This was mentioned by an official from NHAI.
It must be recalled that Rs 14.32 cr was used to provide lighting along the entire road stretch recently. Using 347 single arm bracket poles, as many as 2133 LED lights of 9m height were installed. Point is that as many as 1033 double arm bracket poles of 10m height each and 1033 single arm bracket poles of the same height.
It was pointed out by Mr. Jude Matthew of TN Independent Vehicle Owner`s Association that the period of surface renewal could be reduced from 5 to 3 years as many heavy vehicles and multi axle vehicles using it were high. He also wanted policing to be increased.
