It is well known that Chennai and its surroundings have been battered by continuous heavy rains and strong winds due to Cyclonic storm Michaung. As a result, the power supply to the city was cut by Tangedco. Now, Chennai is slowly getting back to normal and demand for power has increased to 1500 MW on Tuesday evening from an all time low of 112 MW on Monday morning.
The cyclonic storm has led to the fall in the power supply demand in Chennai and it touched a low of 112 MW on Monday evening. This was revealed by the Tangedco chairman and MD Mr. Rajesh Lakhani. He spoke about how on Tuesday the power demand increased to 1100 MW due to the restoration of the power supply in the city. With the power supply restoration works taking place at full swing in Chennai, the power demand would increase further.
In 1610 feeders, power supply has been restored and in 202 feeders the restoration works are underway now. This was brought to light by Mr. Rajesh Lakhani. It must be noted that in localities where the water has receded power supply has been restored now.
For carrying out the power restoration works, around 1500 workers have been brought to Chennai from places like Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram etc. This was as per the minister Mr. Thangam Thenarasu. In places like Ayanavaram and ICF, the residents took part in protests due to the delay in the power restoration.
