It is a common sight now to witness knee high deep water in most of the localities belonging to north Chennai. About 200 houses belonging to the Sivaganapathy Nagar in Madhavaram have now gone under water. The NDRF personnel helped these residents who were struggling for their lives.
It was mentioned by a rescued resident here that the residents were finding it tough with knee high water and lack of power supply etc for 4 days together. The scenes in places like Madhavaram and Ennore were the same with water all around. The overflowing Kosasthalayar River has led to total flooding of the Minjur- Ennore Highway.
It was mentioned by the JCP, Avadi, Mr. P. Vijayakumar that nearly 10000 people were stranded in Burma Nagar, Mannady etc. He added that many interior places in the north as well as central Chennai were flooded due to overflowing Kosasthalayar River.The swelling of the Thanikachalam canal has led to inundation of Sivanandha Road and Vivekanandha Road in Kolathur. Now, water is receding as the flow in Kosathalaya has decreased. This was mentioned by some officers.
