After the floods due to Cyclone Michaung, the TN govt has been providing relief materials to the flood affected residents of Chennai. Point is that none of the relief materials provided by the govt has reached north Chennai till now. This was according to many residents in north Chennai.
It was mentioned by some volunteers that the residents were stranded in water stagnation even after a week. The GCC was of the view that the residents have returned to their homes from the relief centres. In the zonal office at Basin Bridge, there were atleast 50 kids and more than 70 women taking shelter. On Saturday only, water receded here.
It must be taken into account that the residents belonging to Ramdas Nagar in Old Washermenpet struggled without relief materials from 4th to 7th December. Group of volunteers distributed food and other essentials to them. A resident here spoke about how the govt neither provided relief material nor took steps to drain water.
