After turning the lives of people upside down, the Cyclone Michaung triggered floods have now made many tenants in the low lying localities to vacate their houses and go to other highly situated localities now. It is now said that the houses and flats in the localities in Chennai that were not inundated are highly sought out by the residents
The cyclonic floods destroyed Chennai and its nearby places are well known to us. Now, the tenants belonging to the low lying flood affected localities in Chennai are moving into non flood affected localities.
The residents of Balakrishna Street in Mylapore found it hard to cope with the flood waters and now the residents are slowly shifting to other high level localities. There is now more preference for the localities in Chennai that is not flooded. It must be noted that in places like Mylapore, Royapettah, Kotturpuram, Korattur, Velachery etc the recent heavy rains led to water logging. Truth is that water entered into the ground floor in these localities in Chennai. From heavily flooded Velachey and zamin Pallavaram etc, many residents are moving into un-flooded Alwarpet.
There is now a huge demand for the first floor apartment and this was as per a property owner at Perungudi in Chennai. He spoke about how he had received as many as 76 inquiries in a day from the people in the flood affected localities in the city. The rental inquiries have increased by 15% now after the floods in the city. This was brought to light by Mr. Anil Agarwal, founder of no broker.
He threw light on how the residents do not want places like Velachery, Pallikaranai and Madipakkam etc but want to settle in places like Vadapalani, Alandur and Adambakkam etc.
The shocking piece of information is that the usually high demand places like Sholinganallur, Thoraipakkam etc are witnessing reduced demand now. It is learnt that now the tenants in low lying Mudichur area are also going to the elevated Old Tambaram including Selaiyur and Kadeperi.
