14 new arts and science colleges opened by Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa

With the aim of offering quality education to rural students, the Tamil Nadu government has inaugurated 12 arts and science colleges and 2 university constituent in the state. The inauguration was made by the state CM Ms. Jayalalitha through video conferencing from Chennai. These colleges and universities were opened in places including:
- Karambakudi (Pudukottai)
- Peravurani (Thanjavur)
- Kangeyam (Tirupur)
- Kumarapalayam (Namakkal)
- Karimangalam (Dharmapuri)
- Hosur (Krishnagiri)
- Uthiramerur (Kancheepuram)
- Kovilpatti (Tuticorin)
- Kadaladi
- Tiruvadanai
- Mudukulathur (Ramanathapuram)
- Sivakasi (Vridhunagar)
The state has sanctioned 210 teaching and 238 non-teaching staff to these colleges.It is also to be noted that in the past two years, about 22 arts and science colleges were newly opened.
