The important news that has come out is that the Chennai Regional Passport Office or RPO has decided to start tatkal appointments for passport services in all the four passport centres in places like Saligramam, Aminjikarai, Tambaram and Puducherry etc.
In 2023 alone, Regional passport Office or RPO has issued more than 5lakh passports. It must be noted that in 2018 more than 4.83lak passports were provided.
The regional passport officer Mr. Koventhan expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how in 2023 efforts were taken to reduce the police verification process in Chennai. He added that in January the average police verification time was between 8 to 10 days but now it has reduced to 3 to 4 days.
Information gathered is that in 12 districts under RPO Chennai time for police verification has been reduced from 14 days to just 7 days.
For those applicants who have applied for passports but could not obtain it due to reasons like non-submission of required documents or changes in personal activities etc, a walk-in-enquiry was also started. It is available to the public from 10am to 4pm on all days except on Tuesdays.
