The students after completing their plus two are not showing any interest towards science courses. In this scenario, the arts and sciences colleges present in Chennai and its suburbs are planning to introduce a BSc computer sciences course with specialisations in AI or artificial intelligence and data sciences.
It was brought out by a source that 24 out of 46 arts and sciences colleges under Madras University are planning to start BSc computer sciences courses for the academic year 2024-25.
Information is that 13 colleges have planned to start BSc computer science with data science and 11 colleges want to start BSc computer sciences with specialisation in data sciences. There are some colleges that want to start B.Com computer applications, BCA and BSc psychology etc. Point is that 4 colleges want to start MSc (AI and data sciences) and MSc (Computer Sc).
As per Mr. Santhosh Baboo, principal of D G. Vaishnav College in Chennai, the craze of AI and data sciences in engg programmes have been spreading to arts and sciences colleges. He hinted that these courses would have good job opportunities for the students.
