Gone are the days when the Chennai residents would depend on apps like Ola, Uber or Rapido with fluctuating rates (in the peak hours) for their transportation within the city!!
The amazing news that has come out now is that a new mobile application for the commuters to book auto rides have hit the market. An application that has been designed to book rides, Tamil Nadu Meter Auto, has been launched now in Chennai. A group of auto drivers have played their roles in the trial running of this new application. These drivers have been running metered autos in places like Trichy, Coimbatore, Salem and Tirunelveli.
For the first 1.8km, the base fare is Rs 49 and the auto passengers would have to pay Rs 16 for every km they travel after that. There would also be a waiting charge of Rs 1 per minute collected.
It is now said that on an average for any 5km travel in Chennai, the passengers using thee metered autos would have to pay Rs 110. Point is that out of Rs 110 the company that is running the app would collect Rs 9 from the auto drivers as service charges and GST. Amount of Rs 101 would be available for the auto driver as there won`t be any other deduction. The advantages of this new application would be accurate fares, pick up and drop locations etc. There are more than 4000 drivers who have registered with the application now.
