Chennai Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s visit to the city on January 19, 2024, for the inaugural ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The advisory notes potential traffic disruptions between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on routes from INS Adyar to Nehru Indoor Stadium and from Nehru Outdoor Stadium to Raj Bhavan.
Considering the event`s significance, dignitaries including Governor R.N. Ravi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Ministers, and other officials are expected to attend. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and seek alternative routes to avoid congestion on Anna Salai, Sardar Patel Road, and GST Road.
For commercial vehicles, intermittent traffic diversions will be in effect from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Commercial vehicles will be prohibited from Anna Arch to Muthusamy point in both directions. Incoming commercial vehicles on Poonamallee High Road will be diverted at Anna Arch towards Anna Nagar and New Avadi Road.
Commercial vehicles from North Chennai heading towards Parry`s corner will be redirected from NRT New Bridge towards the Stanley roundabout, Mint junction, Moolakothalam junction, Basin bridge, and Vyasarpadi. Commercial vehicles from Hunters Road will be diverted at Hunters Road and EVK Sampath Road to reach EVR Salai in the outgoing direction, and will be rerouted towards Nair Point. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys accordingly to minimize disruptions during the specified hours.
