One of the busiest metro stations in Chennai is Thirumangalam metro station. There has been a growing demand for the parking spaces in this metro station.
From tomorrow, 20th of January 2024, for about 2 months, a portion of the parking lot present at the Thirumangalam metro station will be closed down. The reason for this would be to increase the parking capacity of this metro station. This was announced by CMRL.
It is now brought out by CMRL that it has decided to build one more floor at the existing parking space in this metro station in a phased manner. This would be carried out to cater to the demands of the commuters and to increase the ridership.
The passengers have been requested by CMRL now to use the car parking facilities present in the adjacent metro stations like Anna Nagar Tower and Anna Nagar East metro stations etc.
Yesterday, 18th January 2024, CMRL grabbed many eyeballs as it launched the tunnel boring machine or TBM `Eagle` from the LightHouse metro station towards Boat Club station in corridor 4.
In corridor 4, the underground metro rail construction is underway in phase 2 from Light House station at Marina Beach to Kodambakkam flyover.
It is noteworthy that `Flamingo` or the first TBM launched in the month of September in 2023 is now tunneling in the down line of corridor 4 from the LightHouse metro station to Boat Club station.
According to the press release note from CMRL, counterpart TBM `Eagle` has been launched in the upline from the light House station towards Thirumayilai. It is expected to arrive at the Boat Club station in October 2026.
