If you come across upgraded railway stations in the Chennai division in the future, then don`t be surprised!!
The latest news is that 15 railway stations belonging to the Chennai division of Southern Railway or SR would be upgraded under the Amrit Bharat station scheme. The aim of this scheme would be to improve the entire travel experience of the passengers.
It was mentioned by a press release from SR that railway stations in Chennai Beach- Chengalpet section such as Chennai Beach, Chennai Park, St Thomas Mount, Guindy, Mambalam, Guduvanchery and Chengalpet railway stations along with Perambur, Thiruvallur, Arakkonam, Tiruttani, Jolarpettai, Gummidipoondi, Sullurupeta, Ambattur stations would be upgraded. The passengers would get enhanced facilities at these railway stations.
Important piece of information is that the railway stations from Chennai Beach to Chengalpet section would have facilities like improvements to facade of station, provision of new booking office, provision of pedestrian plaza, resurfacing of flooring of platforms, replacement of old roofing sheets, redevelopment of parking area, provision of lifts and escalators for the existing FOB, provision of passenger information system, better public announcement system, provision of CCTVs, construction of a new station building at Chengalpet etc. According to the needs of each railway station, the facilities would be upgraded.
For the Guindy railway station, the budget allotted is Rs 13.50 cr and for St Thomas Mount railway station the budget allotted is Rs 14.15 cr. Amount of Rs 2cr to Rs 5 cr has been allotted for other stations. It is noteworthy that the Amrit Bharat station scheme is committed to building contemporary passenger friendly railway hubs. With the projects such as platform resurfacing and installation of cutting edge technologies etc, the entire travel of the passengers would be superb.
The press release concluded that these improvements would make the train travel more safe, effective and pleasurable etc.
