As a part of redevelopment work under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the platform has been dug up. As a result, the passengers who board the trains or get down from the express trains face issues now. The passengers are now forced to walk very close to the platforms as the debris consists of stones plus the soil is piled up.
It must be taken into account that though other platforms are available the express trains stop at platform 1 only here. There was a lot of confusion on Monday when the Tirupati-Chennai MEMU express train arrived here. Point is that passengers with stroller bags struggled to walk towards the exit and those who wanted to board the trains had to hop and skip over concrete debris and soil.
The work began here about a month back and still it is not completed. The passengers want the work to be done at night. It was confirmed that as many as 11 express trains and one local stop on platform 1. This was as per Mr. Bhaskar, former member of divisional rail consultative committee or DRUCC.
He spoke about how Railways should give importance to the safety of the passengers first. He added that until the work gets completed trains must be handled on other platforms. The issue has been taken up to the senior officials and this was according to Mr. S. Jayapaul Raj, member of DRUCC. For redevelopment of the station, work is going on now. This was mentioned by a senior official from SR.
