Chennai Metro Rail Sets New Ridership Record in January 2024, Introduces Convenient Ticketing Options and Discounts

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) experienced a robust ridership in January 2024, welcoming a total of 84,63,384 passengers. Notably, on January 12, 2024, the metro system witnessed its peak footfall for the month, with an impressive 3,64,521 commuters, as highlighted in a recent CMRL press release.

The preferred modes of travel varied among passengers, with 37,92,912 individuals opting for the convenience of travel cards, while 2,21,716 travelers embraced online QR code transactions. Additionally, 2,09,136 passengers utilized static QR codes, and 25,36,178 commuters relied on traditional paper QR codes. The digital landscape saw substantial engagement, with 3,75,357 people choosing Paytm, 3,04,232 utilizing WhatsApp, and 97,266 leveraging PhonePe services.

To further enhance the passenger experience, CMRL introduced several attractive offers, including a 20% discount on all ticket purchases. This discount is applicable across various ticketing options, such as Metro Travel Cards, mobile QR code tickets for single, return, and group journeys, as well as QR trip passes accessible through popular platforms like Whatsapp, Paytm, and PhonePe.

In an effort to streamline ticket booking processes, CMRL has introduced the CMRL Whatsapp Ticketing System, reachable at +91 83000 86000. Additionally, passengers can conveniently book tickets through the Paytm platform.

This initiative aims to not only simplify the commuting experience but also encourages the adoption of digital and contactless payment methods for a seamless and efficient travel experience on Chennai`s metro system.
