The latest news is that Chennai metro rail passengers would be able to book their metro train tickets in mobility aggregator apps like Rapido, Nammaytri and Red bus etc.
It is now said that with CMRL opening up its network to developers, Google Maps PhonePe etc would offer metro train tickets. The main objective behind this would be to provide seamless multi-modal integration. There is now collaboration between CMRL and ONDC or open network for digital commerce. The ticket purchasing is simplified and there would be a seamless experience for passengers by this initiative. The first and last mile connectivity would be offered using bike, metro rail and autos.
Point is that a single app is available now and with this app it would be possible to book bikes, metro trains and autos etc. This is because metro trains and other transport modes are present on the ONDC app. In the future, the passengers would be able to shop online while travelling. This was mentioned by an official. Information is that CMRL is the first metro rail service to join the open network platform.
