To develop a common ticketing mobile application for Chennai commuters, CUMTA would float a tender this week. As it would facilitate single booking and single and single payment services, this mobile app would help the commuters to plan their trips with ease. The mobile app would serve as a journey planner for the commuters.
For the ease of travel, the mobile app would have options for multiple modes of transport like metro trains, suburban trains, buses and autos etc.
It was revealed by an official from CUMTA that after the tender is floated in this week it would take about 5 to 6 months before it is finalised and awarded the contract. He added that another 3 to 4 months would be taken to develop and test the new application. He concluded that it would be launched in about 9 to 10 months. Truth is that once the application goes live then commuting and planning of the commuters would improve significantly.
To launch the national common mobility cards, CUMTA is also holding discussions with MTC and railways. These cards were recently introduced by the Chennai metro rail system for bus and train travel is known.
