In the future at the famous Thiruvanmiyur beach in Chennai, there would not be any open dumping. Sounds amazing right!!

Additional garbage bins would be kept and notice boards would be placed by GCC at the famous Thiruvanmiyur beach in Chennai. The GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan made his presence felt here and has asked the vendors to provide bins in front of their shops. By this the public could discard their food wastes and plastic wastes on the spot and not indulge in open dumping.

Despite the availability of 58 garbage bins at Thiruvanmiyur beach, the public do not discard the waste in the dustbins but scatter it everywhere causing issues. This increases the work of the sanitary workers. The GCC Commissioner mentioned that if the visitors use the dust bins then the work of the sanitary workers would be reduced. It is worth mentioning here that barring a designated 50acres in the Perungudi dump yard the disposal in rest of the space in this site has been stopped.

There are 62lakmetric tonnes of garbage at the Kodungaiyur dump yard and 32lakh metric tonnes of garbage at the Perungudi dump yard. By bio-mining, about 24lakhs metric tonnes of garbage have been processed at Perungudi and more than 50acres of land has been reclaimed. Now, similar works have been going on at Kodungaiyur dump yard also.

Point is that roughly 700g of garbage is generated by a single person per day and it amounts to 6300 metric tonnes of garbage produced daily inside the limits of GCC.
