The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai is gearing up to launch an automated ticketing system on buses by March, with the entire fleet expected to have a Passenger Information System (PIS) by June 2025. Additionally, the MTC has outlined plans to procure 1,500 electric buses, funded by the World Bank and KfW. Tenders for 500 e-buses with World Bank funding and 300 with KfW funds have already been floated. The city`s transport system is set to witness substantial growth, with a total of 5,000 buses anticipated.
