By the month of August, NHAI or National Highway Authority of India would be starting the constructing a 4lane highway from Tiruvallur to Tirupati at an estimated amount of Rs 985 cr. The sensational information is that this 4 lane would reduce the travel time between Tiruvallur and Tirupati by 90 minutes. Oriental Structural Engineers Private Ltd has been awarded the road expansion project after the tendering process was completed.
It is worthy to note that the current 2 lane roads would be widened as 4 lane stretches with service roads and construction of 20 underpasses at major junctions to help the local commuters. At these junctions, traffic diversions would be implemented. The NH716 or Chennai-Tirupati highway starts at Padi and is currently 4lane up to Thirunindravur. The mid section between Thiruninravur and Thiruvallur is being expanded into 4 lanes at a cost of Rs 304 cr. By the end of 2024, this would be expanded.
Motorists who go towards Tirupati from Chennai would be able to avoid the busy Tiruvallur traffic with the help of bypasses. It was brought out by a Sevvapettai based resident activist that to accommodate the present traffic density 6lanes were required. For about a decade, efforts have been made by the TN Highways dept to expand the Padi-Thiruninravur section is well known. Little progress has been made regarding this though notices have been set to Ambattur traders & residents.
