The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to alleviate traffic congestion with the impending completion of a flyover along South Usman Road and CIT Nagar 1st Main Road by December. The construction project aims to enhance connectivity and streamline traffic flow in the area.
Stretching over 1,200 meters in length and 8.4 meters in width, the two-lane bridge will serve as a vital link between the existing South Usman Road flyover ramp and CIT Nagar 1st Main Road, extending up to the CIT Nagar 4th Main Road junction. Notably, the flyover includes up and down ramps from the existing Usman Road flyover for the Burkit Road junction, strategically addressing traffic management at key intersections.
Significant progress has been made, with 91 out of 177 piles already completed and several other crucial milestones achieved. This includes the installation of pile caps with pedestals, erection of steel piers and pier caps, and laying of span girders and deck slabs. The ramp lengths at CIT Nagar Main Road and Usman Road have been meticulously planned to ensure efficient traffic flow.
Moreover, essential infrastructure components such as the abutment wall, retaining wall with crash barrier, and the eastern side service road have been completed, marking substantial strides towards the project`s fruition.
In a broader context, the GCC is actively engaged in the upkeep and maintenance of 283 bridges across Chennai, catering to diverse transportation needs including canals, rivers, rail overbridges, pedestrian subways, and footbridges.
With the imminent completion of the South Usman Road-CIT Nagar flyover, residents can anticipate a significant enhancement in commuting convenience and traffic management, underscoring the GCC`s commitment to infrastructure development and urban mobility.
