Chennai Metro Rail Corporation officials have announced plans to resume the stalled metro rail project for the 3rd line from Madhavaram to Siruseri SIPCOT, which includes the stretch from Sholinganallur to Siruseri. The Phase II Metro Rail Project in Chennai spans 116.1 km and consists of three routes, with the 45.4 km 3rd route being one of them. Tunneling operations are currently underway at key points such as Madhavaram Dairy and Sethupet, employing mining machines. Construction of metro rail lines and stations is progressing at various locations along the route.

Construction work on the OMR road from Nehru Nagar to Siruseri SIPCOT began last year. Preliminary work for the 10 km stretch from Sholinganallur to Siruseri has been completed, with roadblocks set up for the next phase. The project initially generated excitement among metro commuters but faced delays due to non-performance by a subcontractor hired by Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL). Consequently, the subcontractor`s contract was terminated.

The "1,000 Pillars" project, which involves the construction of metro stations along the Sholinganallur to Siruseri SIPCOT stretch, is set to commence in the coming weeks, according to Chennai Metro Rail officials.
